Three England internationals who represented other countries

3. Shontayne Hape

Hape began his career with New Zealand Warriors in the NRL, making the switch to England with Bradford Bulls in 2003. He was a great success in Super League and won his first international cap for New Zealand in the 2004 Tri-Nations.

While his time in Bradford was interrupted by several injuries, including a serious knee problem, he remained a favourite of the fans and was voted as a member of their ‘Team of the Century’ in 2007. In 2008 he announced that he would be switching codes to join Guinness Premiership side Bath.

Hape’s introduction into union was slow, but as his experience grew his quick feet made him a potent weapon in the Bath midfield. After a strong start to the season for the west country side in 2009-10, he was called into the England squad for the Six Nations after qualifying through residency.
