Several players once considered by Eddie Jones may look to other nations after being omitted from England’s Autumn Nations Series squad.
This article was inspired by a tweet from Newcastle Falcons powerhouse number 8 Carl Fearns, who suggested George McGuigan should be a target for another country following his latest snub.
Many England-born players have gone on to represent other nations after failing to break into the international set-up.
There is no better place to start than with the Falcons hooker.
#1. George McGuigan
Overlooked by Eddie Jones in favour of his relatively inexperienced understudy Jamie Blamire, the 28?-year-old should now be on Ireland boss Andy Farrell’s radar according to Fearns.
McGuigan did play for Ireland U18 and U20 before switching allegiance to play for England Saxons against South Africa in 2”16.
Arguably the best line-out thrower in the Premiership today, he is of an international standard and worth having a look at.
