Top referee snubbed for Rugby World Cup

New Zealand’s 2018 referee of the year, Glen Jackson, appears to have been snubbed for the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan in September.

Despite being New Zealand’s most experienced and active Test referee and winning five of the last seven NZ referee of the year awards, 1 NEWS understands that World Rugby referee’s boss Alain Rolland has decided to not select the 43-year-old for this year’s RWC tournament.

World Rugby have yet to release the official list for the global showpiece in Japan.

Jackson’s last Test was Ireland’s Six Nations match against Italy, with neither team seeming dissatisfied in any way with his officiating.

Two of Jackson’s fellow Kiwis Ben O’Keefe and Paul Williams look set to make the cut.
