TRANSFER | Gloucester confirm signing of England international

Gloucester have confirmed the signing of England hooker Jack Singleton on a season-long loan from Saracens.

The 23-year-old, who has won three caps for his country and who was part of England’s squad that reached the final of Rugby World 2019, will link up with Gloucester Rugby ahead of the 2020-21 season.

Singleton started his career as part of the Saracens Academy, but joined Worcester Warriors ahead of the 2014-15 season where he made his first team breakthrough.

He was capped by England U20s and named as Worcester’s 2016/17 Young Player of the Season, earning a call up to Eddie Jones’ England squad, playing against the Barbarians in a non-capped international and touring Argentina and South Africa in successive summers.

He moved back to Saracens ahead of the 2019-20 season and earned his first England caps in the home and away Rugby World Cup warm up matches against Wales, and appeared as a replacement against the USA in Kobe in Rugby World Cup 2019.

Director of Rugby David Humphreys explained why Singleton will be such a good addition to Gloucester Rugby’s squad.

“Over the last couple of seasons Jack has developed into an international quality rugby player and was rewarded with a place in the England Rugby World Cup squad in Japan.

“His ability to carry the ball, and his general set piece work, are well suited to our style of play and Jack will get an opportunity to develop his game further at Gloucester.

“In front row terms, he is still a young player but with significant Premiership, European and international experience, Jack’s an exciting addition to the Gloucester squad ahead of next season.”
