Transfer News | Bristol Bears sign Scotland international with immediate effect

Bristol Bears have signed Scottish international Luke Hamilton on a short-term deal with immediate effect.

The 27-year-old, who made his Scotland debut versus the All Blacks in 2017, has previously represented Cardiff Blues, Leicester Tigers, Agen and Edinburgh in the PRO14.

He arrives following a spell in Japan with NTT DoCoMo Red Hurricanes in Osaka.

“We’re pleased to bring someone of Luke’s experience and ability into the squad. He’ll provide good depth and competition to the openside position and is available for selection this weekend,” said Director of Rugby Pat Lam.

“We’re keen to give Luke an opportunity and have a look at how he fits into the Bears environment – we’re confident he can add value to the group. Luke is an abrasive back rower who has performed consistently well in the PRO14 and Premiership.

“With Jordan Crane, Sam Graham and Sam Jeffries currently sidelined, we’re light in the back row so Luke gives us another option there.

“Luke grew up in Pembrokeshire so knows [forwards coach] Jonathan Thomas and he played with Dan Thomas for Wales U20s – we’re looking forward to welcoming him on board.”
