Transfer News: Gloucester sign South African forward

Gloucester have signed South African loose-head prop Corne Fourie from Super Rugby side Stormers.

The 31-year-old, capable of playing hooker or loosehead prop, will add vast experience to the Cherry and Whites squad. Previously with the Blue Bulls, Pumas and Lions, Fourie has represented the Lions and Stormers in Super Rugby as well as spending time in Japan with the Panasonic Wild Knights.

Capped at U20 level by South Africa, he has also represented the South African Barbarians and will be a welcome addition to the squad according to Director of Rugby, David Humphreys.

“Corné’s versatility will be incredibly useful to us, especially with James Hanson continuing with his rehabilitation following surgery towards the end of last season.

“He’s played a lot of Super Rugby and featured in some high-profile games such as Super Rugby semi-finals and finals.

“He will fit in quickly as there are a number of his former team-mates here, and will add strength in depth to a key area of the squad.”
