Transfer News: Nathan Hughes future at Wasps ‘uncertain’

Wasps Director of Rugby has revealed that it will be difficult for Wasps to keep hold of Nathan Hughes due to financial restrictions.

The England powerhouse is among a large contingent of out-of-contract internationals with Anthony Watson, Manu Tuilagi and Maro Itoje also yet to agree on new seals.

Wasps have already locked Elliot Daly and Joe Launchbury into long-term deals, but Young says he faces a battle to contain rising salaries.

“Everyone knows we’re pretty much up to the salary cap,” Young told the Mail on Sunday.

“There are eight or nine teams operating around the same level. Nathan came over and he’s had three new contracts and no pay cuts.

“You’ve got to make decisions. You probably can’t afford to keep everybody and you’re forced into making certain calls.

“We don’t want to lose anybody but to keep one of our best players, somebody else might have to go. If the price of your best players keeps going up then inevitably your squad’s going to get smaller.”
