Transfer News: Saints flanker signs for Championship club

Coventry have announced the signing of Northampton Saints back-row forward Ben Nutley.

The 26-year- old progressed through Saints’ Academy to play 83 times for Northampton’s first-team in the Premiership, Anglo-Welsh Cup, A League and European Rugby.

Luton-born Nutley has represented England at Under-19’s and Under-20 levels, and helped Northampton win the Aviva Premiership and Challenge Cup double in 2014.

Nutley’s most recent triumph came on Monday evening when he played at Number 8 for Northampton as they won back-to- back A League titles, both of which the 26-year- old played a key part in.

Rowland Winter acknowledges that Nutley will add value to an already gifted squad and will provide added experience to the team.

He said: “Ben will add more quality to our talented squad and will make the back row even more competitive. He is a hardworking, very skilful player and has shown his versatility right across the back row for Saints.

“His experience and leadership skills will be valuable on and off the pitch and I am excited to see how much he can contribute to our progression as a club.”

Nutley is the 9th new addition so far to the senior title winning squad, alongside props James Gibbons (Ealing Trailfinders) and Charlie Beech (Yorkshire Carnegie), back row pair Adam Peters (Rotherham) and Jack Ram (Tonga & Doncaster Knights), fly half player coach Jake Sharp (London Scottish), and outside backs Andy Bulumakau, Junior Bulumakau (both Doncaster Knights) and David Halaifonua (Tonga & Gloucester).
