Northampton Saints have identified the Wasps man as their number one target and will make their formal approach in January.
Josh Bassett, who is yet to agree on a new deal at the Ricoh Arena, is according to The Rugby Paper emerged as Saints number one target to replace the departing George North.
The 25-year-old made his name in the Championship with Bedford Blues and has been one of the black and golds most consistent players in recent times.
Saints are also reportedly keeping an eye on Wasps lock Matt Symons when his contract expires next summer.

The 28-year-old, who had a stint in Super Rugby with the Chiefs, was let go by Saracens as a youngster but worked his way back to the Premiership after impressing at National League One side, Esher.
Bassett and Symons are two among a number of Wasps stars whose contract expires at the end of the season with Danny Cipriani, James Haskell and Joe Launchbury all yet to officially sign new deals.
