Prop John Afoa looks set to leave Gloucester at the end of the season with Bristol likely to be his next destination.
The World Cup-winning former New Zealand international is in the final year of his contract at the Cherry and Whites.
And he has reportedly attracted the interest of the Championship leaders, who are thought to have made him a lucrative offer to make the move down the M5.
Gloucester head coach Johan Ackermann made the revelation after it was confirmed on Monday that Richard Hibbard will be leaving the club at the end of the season to join the Dragons.
Ackermann said: “There’s a lot of permutations. If Richard leaves, we have to replace Richard or we’ve got young hookers who still need to develop and obviously with John Afoa leaving we still need a front row or two.
“That’s up to who’s available and then making the budget work.”
