Two Red Roses Stars Nominated for 2023 Women’s Six Nations Player of the Tournament

Two stars of the England Women’s squad have been nominated to be the 2023 TikTok Women’s Six Nations Player of the Tournament. Red Roses Captain Marlie Packer, and exciting fly-half Holly Aitchison have been put forward for the award.

Packer and Aitchison were crucial parts of England’s Grand Slam winning Six Nations campaign. They are joined by France centre Gabrielle Vernier, and Wales prop Sisilia Tuipulotu for this years award. Marlie Packer had a phenomenal competition, and rose to the occasion of full captaincy, following the retirement of legendary Red Rose Sarah Hunter after Round One.

Packer was a dominant force in the forwards, and lead from the front for seven tries in the competition. England’s resilient leader secured seven turnovers, and also made 71 carries, as the Red Roses won back-to-back Grand Slams, and a fifth consecutive Women’s Six Nations title.

Holly Aitchison also stepped up for the competition, as England entered the Six Nations with a heavily depleted back-line of injuries. Aitchison stepped up, as Zoe Harrison and Emily Scarratt were vacated through injury. Typically a centre, Aitchison was able to adapt to fly-half, with six try assists and talismanic performances, of a player long suited to the number 10 jersey.

Vernier contributed strongly in the centre for ‘Les Blues’, as France took England to the wire for the Grand Slam. The 25-year-old scored five tries in the competition, and was a key player in France’s comeback attempt in front of a record crowd at Twickenham Stadium.

Wales prop Sisilia Tuipulotu wraps up the final four, as the 19-year-old had an outstanding competition up-front. Wales have pushed on in the international women’s game, and finished third in this year’s Women’s Six Nations. They are closing the gap on England and France, with Tuipulotu playing an intergral part in this venture. The Gloucester-Hartpury star scored four tries in the campaign, and established her scrummaging presence on every opposing pack.
