Wallabies make one change for Final

  • Wallabies make one alteration ahead of Rugby World Cup final against New Zealand on Saturday: 4 pm kick off
  • Prop Scott Sio returns to the front row in place of James Slipper
  • Israel Folau overcomes ongoing ankle problem to be named at fullback
Scott Sio has been recalled by Michael Cheika to the Australia starting XV in their only change ahead of the Rugby World Cup final against New Zealand on Saturday.

Sio, who missed the semi-final win against Argentina due to a damaged elbow, comes in for James Slipper in the front row as the Wallabies look to reinforce their scrum. The powerhouse prop is widely regarded as the best scrummager in the Australia squad.

Meanwhile, fullback Israel Folau has also been cleared to play despite his ongoing battle with an ankle injury. The problem meant he only lasted an hour against Argentina,

“This week we’ve had a strong focus on improving certain areas in our game where we feel we haven’t been at our best in the previous matches,” Australia coach Michael Cheika said.

“We still have lots of scope to improve, and we’ll work on that before this next match against New Zealand.”
