Zach Mercer is not in the England squad but it doesn’t mean we won’t see him in action at some point during the Guinness Six Nations.
In terms of Red Rose number eights, head coach Eddie Jones has let him know he’s the next one off the rank.
“Eddie just said to me I’m his third-choice eight behind Nathan (Hughes) and Billy (Vunipola),” the 21-year-old said after an energetic and effective display in the 20-17 defeat at Toulouse on Sunday.
“That’s the usual honesty from him. For me, they’re world-class players and I’m just waiting for my opportunity again.
“I’ve got to show on the pitch why I want to put the England shirt on again. All I can do is play well for Bath.”
