“Zero chill” – Christian Wade rips into Chris Ashton’s Premiership record

Former Wasps player Christian Wade has challenged the significance of Chris Ashton’s recent achievement of scoring 100 tries in the Premiership.

In an interview with The Rugby Paper, the 31-year-old claimed that he would have broken the record much earlier if he had played in the same teams as Ashton.

Wade, who returned to rugby with Racing 92 in the Top 14 following a stint in American Football, turned down a potential return to the Premiership to stay in France.

He stated, “If I played in the teams Ashton played in, I would’ve had the number one record for most Premiership tries five, six years ago.”

Ashton scored a hat-trick for Leicester Tigers last weekend, becoming the first player to reach the milestone of 100 tries in the Premiership.

Wade’s claims have sparked a debate about the significance of individual achievements versus team performance in rugby. It is unclear whether his comments hold any merit, but they have certainly garnered attention and sparked discussion within the rugby community.

Ashton’s career in rugby has been a notable one, with 44 caps for England and two European Rugby Champions Cup titles.

This list has a total of 37 England total caps combined. Dan Cole, Toby Flood and Tom Wood all have more caps individually than this five won combined.

#5. Christian Wade (One cap)

The 2013 British & Irish Lion quit Wasps in order to pursue a lucrative career in the NFL, having grown disillusioned with rugby union. The 29-year-old was one of the most recognised names in the domestic game, but his continued absence from the international set-up – having won just one England cap on the 2013 tour of Argentina – had left him frustrated and fed up of continuously being overlooked. What a waste.
