England confirm squad for Nations Championship: Alex Mitchell stood down

Steve Borthwick has named his England squad for the Nations Championship, with two notable absentees at scrum-half.
England will begin their autumn campaign this Sunday when they host Australia at Allianz Stadium, with Borthwick confirming his squad ahead of the opening fixture.
Following a summer that included a defeat to South Africa and victories over Argentina and Fiji, England will be hoping to build momentum over the coming weeks.
They face Australia, Japan and New Zealand on home soil, with the aim of securing the highest possible position ahead of the Nations Championship finals weekend, which will also take place at Allianz Stadium.
Most of the squad remains unchanged from the group selected for last week's three-day training camp at Pennyhill Park.
However, Alex Mitchell has been ruled out with a hamstring problem and is due to undergo a scan later this week. The full extent of his injury is not yet known.
His Northampton Saints teammate Archie McParland also misses out through injury, although he could return for the fixtures against Japan or New Zealand in the coming weeks.
The pair have been replaced by Ben Spencer and Harry Randall.
Elsewhere, Kepu Tuipulotu makes way for Theo Dan due to injury, while Noah Caluori drops out after initially being included in the training squad.
Immanuel Feyi-Waboso has been deemed fit to return after his availability was uncertain last week.
Max Ojomoh is another player to leave the squad, with Seb Atkinson taking his place after successfully passing his fitness test.
“We’re looking forward to getting back to Allianz Stadium for four important Test matches against top-level opposition,” said Borthwick.
“These fixtures take on added significance this Autumn as they represent our final opportunity to face Southern Hemisphere opposition before next year’s Rugby World Cup.
“Facing Australia next Sunday is an exciting challenge. They have played a significant amount of Test rugby in recent months, and we know the quality and experience they will bring.”
