Former Premiership star to referee his first Premiership game this weekend

Scrum-half-turned-referee Karl Dickson will take charge of his first Premiership game at Kingsholm on Friday night.

Dickson retired in May to become a full-time professional referee, and is now part of the Rugby Football Union’s 10-person elite panel.

The 35-year-old will now take charge of his first game in front of the famous Shed for Gloucester’s game against league leaders Saracens, which is also being televised live on BT Sport.

Dickson has experience of handling big games though after an eight-year spell at Harlequins and he was also called up by England in 2012 for the Six Nations and tour of South Africa but did not win a full cap.
