Lions coach confirms Premiership interest in Springbok lock

Gloucester have a battle on their hands if they want to bring Springbok lock Franco Mostert to Kingholm next season.

The Rugby Paper claim several English clubs want to sign Mostert, with Leicester Tigers, Bath, Sale and Worcester Warriors all reportedly in the hunt.

Thanks to Johan Ackermann’s influence – he coached Mostert while at the Lions – Gloucester are seen as favourites to sign the 26 year-old. However, his South African franchise is determined to keep hold of him for the duration of his contract.

Lions head coach Swys de Bruin admitted to Sport24: “He is contracted to us until the end of Super Rugby next year. Obviously they want him, but he is staying with us. He is our player.”
