REPORTS | Exeter Chiefs set to sign South African powerhouse

European and Premiership champions Exeter Chiefs are closing in on the signing of powerhouse prop Maks van Dyk.

A product of the famous Paarl Boys’ High School in South Africa and a IRB Junior World Championship winner with the South African U20 side in 2012, van Dyk has experience playing for Pro14 champions Leinster, Toulouse, the Barbarians as well as the Natal Sharks, Griquas and Cheetahs in South Africa.

The 28-year-old is a free agent following a short but impressive stint on loan with Harlequins from Toulouse towards the end of the 2019/20 Premiership season.

Rob Baxter was forced to enter the transfer market as Exeter will be without both first choice tighthead props for the start of the new season.

England international Harry Williams and Wales’ Tomas Francis will both still be taking part in the 2020 Autumn Nations Cup when the new Gallagher Premiership kicks off on Friday 20th November.

Chiefs kick off their campaign with a tough trip to Harlequins, and the clash from Twickenham Stoop will be broadcast on BT Sport.
