Despite Scott Robertson’s shock exit as All Blacks head coach, there has been no official word on whether Ardie Savea will remain committed to New Zealand.

The loose forward, one of world rugby’s standout players, is currently on sabbatical in Japan with Kobelco Kobe Steelers but remains contracted to New Zealand Rugby through 2027.
This means he is still eligible for All Blacks selection when available.
Reports suggest Savea has experienced frustration within the All Blacks environment, with the coaching upheaval fueling speculation over his future.
Some media outlets have even raised the possibility that he could explore opportunities abroad, including a longer stint in Japan, a move to Europe, or — in theory — representing another nation due to his heritage.

These claims are speculative, and there has been no confirmation of any formal plans to change national allegiance. Savea’s focus on club rugby overseas does not currently prevent him from returning to the All Blacks if he chooses.

He could recommit to New Zealand’s Test programme, continue his club career abroad first, or — at least according to media speculation — consider options that might one day take him elsewhere. For now, there is no confirmation he will switch nations.
