England's most likely starting XV this summer

Selection will be crucial, with several positions up for debate. Here is a predicted England starting XV for the huge challenge awaiting them in Johannesburg.

No fullback has established themselves as the starting choice, with both Freddie Steward and Elliot Daly having pretty poor Six Nations campaigns and not looking to be the answer in the position moving forward. Marcus Smith can feel hard done by, but it simply seems like Steve Borthwick does not trust him.

The in form winger in England, and therefore should be given a chance to play for the national side. The persistence with Tom Roebuck is very surprising, and Radwan is the perfect player to inject a bit of life into this side. He is similar to Henry Arundell in terms of pace, but offers far more overall. Give him a chance.

Borthwick seems to see Freeman as a 13 now instead of a winger, so he will most likely play here in the summer.

This one is between Seb Atkinson and Fraser Dingwall. Dingwall is the more consistent and, some would say, the more solid player, but Atkinson has that little bit of extra x-factor.

While Dingwall is the safer option, Atkinson offers more variation to his game and is a great carrier and tackler. The Gloucester man has more potential, so some faith should be put in him.

The best winger England have and, although he is a bit injury prone, as long as he is fit he should play.

Smith did not have an amazing Six Nations, but now is the time for Borthwick to put some faith in him and show that he is the fly half going forward.

As good as George Ford is, age is not on his side anymore and Smith has greater potential. He is a great playmaker who can carry as well as tackle and will only get better with age.

Few arguments can be made that Mitchell is by far the best scrum half in the country, so he will play alongside his Saints halfback partner in this XV.

Another player few can dispute as the best in his position. Genge was very strong in the Six Nations and helped the scrum become an area of major improvement that can compete with anyone globally, even the Springboks.

There are not really many suitable alternatives with Test experience at the moment, so the vast experience of George earns him a place in this squad. A cool head and someone who can bring calm to the team.

Now one of the best tightheads in the world, Heyes is playing like a man possessed at the moment. He performed exceptionally well in the Six Nations and will start in the summer.

Captain and first name on the teamsheet. He will hopefully come into the summer with a fresher mind after a poor Six Nations that was largely due to personal circumstances. A break at Saracens beforehand might help him reset.

Has stepped up massively since being given a chance and worked really well in the setup against France, which seems to be England’s most effective forward approach.

A third lock playing at blindside worked really well against France, and Chessum played out of his skin. If it is not broken, do not fix it. Itoje, Coles and Chessum looked very effective when all were on the pitch together. A big presence, Chessum will be key in setting the tone.

While fairly average during the Six Nations, Underhill is still a brilliant player and a world class tackler. He is also a bit more mobile, which makes him a good option alongside Chessum to cover more ground. The combination of him starting with Tom Curry coming off the bench still looks strong.

The standout player for England in the Six Nations. He will not lose his spot. A great carrier, exceptional tackler and breakdown specialist, he must be a dream to play alongside. He also gives the back row a good level of balance.
