We’re nearing the end of the 2022 summer internationals which has been unique and fantastic, that has seen Ireland and Wales achieve historic away wins against New Zealand and Wales for the first time.
However, this list of players have seen their prosperity suffer a sharp downturn through the current campaign
Here are International rugby players who have underperformed this summer.
#1. Alun Wyn Jones (Wales)
Will Rowland's continued skyward trajectory and Adam Beard’s fine individual campaign has seen the 36-year-old slip down the pecking order.
Once arguably the first name on the team sheet – and one of Wales most important players, Jones has now been relegated to benchwarmer.
The legendary second-row, who is the most capped rugby player of all-time, has made two uninspiring replacement appearances, being sin-binned in both games.
It feels like we are coming to the end of an era.
#2. Marcus Smith (England)
Eddie Jones will have to be patient with his fly-half, who has had a tricky time down in Australia. Performances haven't been great and he'll have to be better moving forward to keep his place in the squad, especially if George Ford an recapture his form when he returns from injury.
#3. Blair Kinghorn (Scotland)
The halfback has not looked confident playing fly-half in the opening two tests and Scotland looked far better when he moved to his more natural fullback position for the last 20 minutes of the second match. Funny that.
#4. James O'Connor (Australia)
He has played a lot more during the series against England than he probably expected, but has failed to execute when his team needed him most.
