"Missing 1/3 of the team" Kyle Sinckler and five other players ruled out of Australia tour

Below, we look at five players who will almost definitely not travel whether due to injury or personal choice.

#1. Kyle Sinckler

The Telegraph has confirmed that it has been agreed between the England and Bristol medical teams that Sinckler will have a summer off' having only played in two Champions Cup matches since the Six Nations.

#2. Henry Slade

The England centre has gone under the knife this week to get a long-standing shoulder injury sorted.

#3. Ben Youngs

It's unlikely that the scrum-half will travel to Australia due to personal reasons after he pulled out of the 2021 Lions tour. As a result, it would be great to get a better look at exciting playmaker Raffi Quirke following his impressive cameo appearances during the Autumn Nations Series.

#4. Sam Simmonds

He has not played since the Chiefs' Heineken Champions Cup last-16 first-leg win over Munster on 9 April.

"It's been a niggly hip injury that's been causing him pain," Exeter director of rugby Rob Baxter said.

"The restrictive thing has been the pain, not so much the function.

"If he gets this sorted now that means he can have a good recovery time and a good pre-season, and it's a huge year for anybody who's got international ambitions next year, it being a World Cup year.

"So in some ways it'll really help him get himself to the level he was a couple of years ago when he was banging tries in from everywhere.

"He'll want to follow that through because that's what led to his international and Lions recognition."

#5. Joe Marler

Marler has reportedly withdrawn himself from England's plans for the three-Test tour of Australia.

The decision to skip the tour looks unlikely to affect his England prospects after he missed the same tour by choice back in 2016.

#6. Manu Tuilagi

Tuilagi has been ruled out of next month's tour to Australia after undergoing a procedure on his knee, his club Sale Sharks said on Thursday.

"Sale Sharks can confirm that Manu Tuilagi has undergone a routine procedure on his knee which will rule the 31-year-old out of this summer's England tour to Australia," the statement read.

"The club, in close consultation with England Rugby, have decided that a summer of rest and a full pre-season is the best course of action."
