It marks the second venture O’Mahony has undertaken since hanging up his boots. Alongside his passion for tending to his beloved garden, the 2023 Grand Slam winner has stepped into the world of business with the launch of his own non-alcoholic beer brand, Active Brewing Company.

Active Brewing Company Launch

Launching this February, Active Brewing Company is positioning itself at the intersection of beer, wellness, and modern social habits—reflecting a growing shift in how people approach alcohol, health, and performance.
The company’s initial releases will include two 0.0% beers—a non-alcoholic lager and a non-alcoholic pale ale—both developed with a strong focus on flavour and drinkability rather than functionality alone.
Speaking ahead of the launch, O’Mahony explained the inspiration behind the venture:

“As an athlete, I spent years looking for non-alcoholic options. From a sporting point of view, you become very aware of how important recovery and balance are and a lot of people are thinking the same way now. Over time, it became clear there was a gap for something that worked alongside an active lifestyle, rather than against it.”

He added:

“Non-alcoholic beer isn’t a niche anymore—people want alternatives that don’t feel like a compromise. The origin of the idea to create Active Brewing Company came from the vision we had of creating socially acceptable non-alcoholic beers that supported recovery and wellbeing. We believe that these beers will appeal to a wide range of outgoing, sociable consumers, especially those who are active in the fitness and wellbeing space.”

Future Plans: ‘Recover’ Range

While the first releases are traditional in style, they form part of a broader vision for the brand. Later in 2026, Active Brewing Company plans to introduce a range of functional non-alcoholic beers, beginning with a product called Recover, designed specifically for post-activity consumption.

Move into Broadcasting

O’Mahony has also transitioned into the media world, becoming a pundit for Virgin Media Ireland, making his debut during the 2026 Six Nations.
Virgin Media Head of Sport Brian Gleeson welcomed the addition of the former Ireland captain, praising the insight he will bring to viewers:

“Peter is one of the most influential Irish players of the past decade and someone whose understanding of the game is second to none.”

“To have a player who has been central to so many of Ireland’s biggest rugby moments join our panel is a massive addition. His perspective, especially coming so soon after hanging up his boots, will enrich our Six Nations coverage and bring viewers closer to the action than ever before.”
