Statement: England star Max Malins DEPARTS Bristol Bears for Premiership rival

Malins, 28, has been a standout performer across two stints with the Bears, racking up 36 appearances and crossing the whitewash 28 times. Initially arriving on loan in 2020, he made his move permanent in 2023—but now, it’s time for a homecoming at the StoneX Stadium.

Reflecting on Malins’ departure, Bears Director of Rugby Pat Lam paid tribute to his impact on and off the field.

“I’ve really enjoyed working with Max. He played a key role in some of our most memorable moments, including a standout performance in our last major silverware win,” Lam said.

“It’s frustrating for him and for us that his final game came back in October, but despite his injury, he’s continued to contribute massively behind the scenes. His leadership and standards will be missed.”

For Malins, leaving Ashton Gate is bittersweet.

“I’ve loved my time at Bristol—this place became a home away from home,” he admitted.

“It’s gutting that injury has meant my last game in a Bears shirt has already been played. I would have loved one last chance to run out with the lads and say goodbye properly.

“But I’ll be at Ashton Gate for the run-in, cheering the boys on for the rest of the season.”

Malins will be hoping to make his mark once again when he links back up with Saracens next season.
