England rugby star George Ford's wife fled war-torn Kosovo as a four-year-old refugee before going on to build a successful restaurant business in Greater Manchester.
Atdhetare Hoxha, known as Addy, arrived in Britain in 1999 after her family's home was bombed during the Kosovo War.
They had lost almost everything and could not speak English.
More than 25 years later, she has built a successful career in hospitality, with husband George revealing that she was running four restaurants while raising their young daughter.
It is a remarkable journey from a childhood shaped by conflict to becoming a successful businesswoman.

"When we came here, we had nothing"

Atdhetare was just four when her family fled Kosovo in search of safety.
They eventually settled in Oldham, where her father began rebuilding their lives by working in restaurants.
Recalling their arrival in Britain, she said:
"I came here as a refugee aged four during the Kosovan War. We had a great life back home."
The family had previously enjoyed a comfortable life, but the conflict changed everything.
"When we came here, we had nothing."
Her father started working as a kitchen porter while learning English, inspiring his daughter's future career.
Although Atdhetare initially trained as a hairdresser, she eventually followed her family's passion for hospitality.

Building a restaurant empire

In 2020, Atdhetare opened Sorella, an Italian restaurant in Saddleworth, Greater Manchester.
It marked the beginning of a successful chapter in her career.
Her growing business interests became a major consideration when England international Ford committed his future to Sale Sharks.
Speaking about his decision to remain in the North West, Ford said:
"You don’t make a decision like this just on rugby, there’s loads more to consider."
The fly-half explained that his wife's demanding schedule and their family life had influenced his decision.
Ford has also praised her determination and willingness to help wherever needed.
Speaking to The Times about her work ethic, he joked:
"She is so hard-working."
The experienced international admitted that he and his brother Joe were far less useful when it came to helping in the restaurants.

Ford has also been preparing for his own future away from the rugby pitch.
The Sale Sharks fly-half has invested in hospitality and commercial property, recognising that his playing career will not last forever.
Speaking to Investec, Ford explained that financial planning had become increasingly important.
"I want to make sure that even when I do retire, I’m in a good position."
His business interests include Kobe Coffee, which he opened with his brother Joe in 2020.
Ford has also invested in commercial property to create additional income beyond rugby.
The England international has previously spoken about his ambition to move into coaching, but is determined to build financial security for his family.

Family comes first

Ford and Atdhetare married in 2022 before welcoming their daughter, Alarnia, in March 2024.
Fatherhood has given the experienced fly-half a new perspective on life.
Having represented England at three Rugby World Cups, Ford admitted that becoming a dad meant more than anything he had achieved on the pitch.
"I always thought playing for England was the biggest thing in my life, but I know different now."
His decision to remain at Sale has allowed him to stay close to his wife and daughter while continuing his international career.
For Atdhetare, the journey from arriving in Britain as a refugee to building a successful hospitality business has been extraordinary.
And with the couple continuing to plan for their future beyond rugby, their remarkable story is far from finished.
