"Woeful" - Five England stars were included in 'worst' World Cup XV

The tournament is widely regarded as a low point for the English team due to several off-field controversies that cast a shadow over their performance.

As a result, five English players were included in the list.

Eurosport wrote: "The England captain's (pictured, above right) antics in an Auckland bar - which involved a mystery blonde who may or may not have been a former squeeze kissing his forehead - overshadowed the entire group stage for England.

"His on-pitch displays were equally lacklustre, and all the signs suggest that he will now retire disgracefully from rugby to a lifetime of negotiating a rocky royal marriage."

Eurosport wrote: "England's entire back row was a disappointment, but Haskell - admittedly playing out of position - was woeful. And it's impossible to ignore his part in one of England's many off-pitch scandals (in his case the alleged comments which upset a hotel maid) which must surely have contributed to the side continually taking their eye off the ball in New "Zealand."

Eurosport wrote: "Lawes would have earned selection for his knee to the head of Argentina Mario Ledesma alone: there was no excuse for going in as he did on a player who was already being tackled and already shoved out of play. But to celebrate your return by wearing a branded gumshield made it dead certain."

Eurosport wrote: "The injury to Danny Care before the tournament should have been the spur Youngs needed to come to New Zealand and play confident rugby in the knowledge that the number nine jersey was his. Instead, he's going backwards: stuttering, awkward, and seemingly developing a nasty habit of being unable to throw a pass until he's taken a practice swing."

Eurosport wrote: "The prop only got a spot in the starting line-up for the 2003 winners after Andrew Sheridan - arguably England's only world-class front-rower - was lost to injury. Looked out of his depth throughout, and the penalties he gave away in the quarter-final were crucial in France's victory."
