Rugby world sends Finn Russell ‘congratulations’ messages after birth of first child

The Scotland international welcomed his first child into the world two days ago with girlfriend Emma Canning.

Racing 92 fly-half Finn Russell and his girlfriend Emma Canning welcomed their first child on Friday night and the rugby world have sent them their congratulations.

The Scotland start has become a cult hero at Murrayfield since signing for the Scots since making his debut in 2014, and has been one of Gregor Townsend’s better performers despite initially being left out in the Autumn.

Amazingly, two days after the birth Russell played the final ten minutes for Racing92 on his return to the French outfit and kicked two conversions and one penalty in the 46-12 Top 14 win over Clermont.

Posting one photo of their beautiful baby girl on Instagram, Canning put the caption: “Charlie Elizabeth Russell, born at 4.30pm on 25/11/22, weighing a healthy 7lbs 6 oz. we are so madly in love with you, nothing could’ve prepared us for this feeling. we’ve got you forever our baby girl “

He has since been sent many congratulations, including from Scotland teammates Stuart Hogg, Ryan Wilson and Ali Price.

Next move?

Russell is closing in on a big-money move to Bath as their marquee player for the 2023/24 Premiership season.

According to the Mail Online, they are close to completing the move, which would be ‘a stunning coup for the West Country club and also the troubled Premiership as a whole, to have a new box-office asset.’

Russell had previously been linked with a move to Japan, but due to his personal life now would like to stay in Europe.
