South Africa star goes ‘full Rassie’ with ‘disgraceful’ comment aimed at referee

Referee Matt Carley was forced to issue a warning to South Africa captain Siya Kolisi after South Africa hooker Bongi Mbonambi demands that the English official ‘referees both sides’.

The hooker should not be allowed to talk like that and was lucky to avoid further punishment for the backchat.

One fan wrote: “Should’ve carded him, no different to Dylan Hartley being red carded and banned from Lions tour for allegedly calling Wayne Barnes a cheat,”

“10 in the bin; penalty; next similar comment gets a red,” said a second.

A third wrote: “The game MUST NOT be allowed to go this way,”

Today’s incident came after South Africa director of rugby Rassie Erasmus has been banned for two matches for his tweets about the officiating in last weekend’s defeat by France.

It meant he missed the clash with Italy and next Saturday’s game against England at Twickenham.

He was given a one-year matchday ban after a video tirade against the officials during the 2021 series with the British and Irish Lions.

Biggar is the epitome of players you hate until they are on your team. The way the fly-half continues to moan to referees vociferously has seemingly only got worse throughout his career. Dan Biggar facts:

  1. Biggar has twice been selected to tour with the British and Irish Lions (2017 & 2021)
  2. On 7 December 2015, Biggar won the BBC Cymru Sports Personality of the Year Award
  3. Biggar came through the Ospreys development pathway, having attended Gowerton Comprehensive School in Swansea
  4. The fly-half has his own routine before kicking goals, which fans now call “The Biggarena” after Los Del Rio’s 1995 hit, Macarena
