Very few rugby players retire at the top of their game, or even with the club, they made their name with.
As such, it's easy to let former stars of the Premiership fade from view until their retirement is all but assumed.
Here's a selection of former-Premiership names who you might have thought had hung up their boots...
1. Chris Mayor (Sale, Northampton & Wasps)
Former England Sevens international Mayor is still playing his trade in National League 2 North with Sale FC. The 35-year-old centre began his career with Wigan Warriors before switching codes to join Sale Sharks. He later joined Northampton Saints before stints with Gran Parma and Wasps.
2. Aleki Lutui (Worcester & Gloucester)
In 2015, a global audience watched Lutui scrum down for Tonga in his third Rugby World Cup. Aged 39 and with a distinguished club history spanning both hemispheres behind him, the hooker joined Ampthill in 2015 and is still a regular in the side that plays in National League One.
3. Luke Narraway (Gloucester & London Irish)
England international back row Luke Narraway was the latest addition to Coventry Rugby’s squad, joining in the summer of 2017. The Worcester-born 33-year-old, who captained London Irish to promotion last season, came to Butts Park as a player-coach on a two-year deal.
4. Hayden Smith (Saracens)
The popular USA international became somewhat a fan favourite during his two stints with Saracens between 2010-2012 and 2014-2016. Smith spent the other two years playing professional American football as a tight end for the New York Jets of the National Football League. The 32-year-old has continued to play rugby since leaving Sarries in 2016, since joining Esher in National League One.
5. Alex Crockett (Bath, Bristol, Worcester & Newcastle)
Crockett started his professional career at Bath before representing Bristol, Worcester and Newcastle in the Premiership. The 36-year-old centre announced his retirement in 2014 but is now head coach/player of Hull Ionians in National League One.
6. Sam Tuitupou (Worcester & Sale Sharks)
National League One club Coventry announced the signing of All Black centre Sam Tuitupou from Sale Sharks last year. The inside centre is still playing for blue and whites in National League One, helping the club to 16 consecutive wins so far this season.
7. Alex Grove (Worcester)
Former Scotland international and Worcester stalwart is still playing down in National League One with Birmingham Moseley. The 30-year-old centre joined the club from Edinburgh in 2010.
8. Tim Molenaar (Gloucester, Harlequins & London Welsh)
Molenaar signed for Gloucester Rugby from Nottingham in August 2009, making 75 appearances for the Cherry & Whites before subsequent periods with Harlequins and London Welsh. The 36-year-old centre then joined Birmingham Moseley, where he continued to operate in the midfield.
9. Kevin Barrett (London Irish, Exeter Chiefs & Saracens)
The 37-year-old former England Sevens captain, despite initially retiring in 2013, is still going, playing regularly for Ampthill in National League One. The scrum-half mad well over 100 Premiership appearances between 1999 and 2013, representing London Irish, Exeter Chiefs and Saracens in that time.
