2023 Six Nations: Who is singing the England national anthem at Twickenham?

“God Save The King” is played before the start of nearly every sporting event including an England national team.

But there’s no bigger stage than before the opening kickoff of a Six Nations match at Twickenham.

With millions of people watching on and 80,000 fans in the stadium, the performer each year has a lot of responsibility on their shoulders to get it right.

Who is singing the England national anthem at Twickenham?

This year, that responsibility falls to 27-year-old soprano Faryl Smith.

She told the Northants Telegraph: “The atmosphere is always great and I can’t wait to lead the crowds at Twickenham again.”

Classical singer Faryl rose to fame during the 2008 series of Britain’s Got Talent, where she reached the final, having previously won 13 awards at the Eisteddfod in Kettering aged just 10.

Before taking the stage on the ITV talent show, she graced several music festivals with her performances. It was on this show that music magnate Simon Cowell dubbed her “literally one in a million”.

Her talent was further recognized in 2010 when she was nominated for two Classical BRIT Awards, setting a record as the youngest artist to ever receive a double nomination.

Having honed her skills, she later graduated with distinction from the undergraduate course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, earning a first-class honours degree.
