CONFIRMED: Ireland international makes Leinster return

The Ireland international began his professional career with Leinster after progressing through the province's academy system.

During his first stint with the club, Carbery scored 101 points in 37 appearances, crossing for 11 tries while also adding eight conversions and 10 penalties. His performances saw him named Leinster Rugby Young Player of the Year and PRO12 Young Player of the Season in 2016/17.

Carbery was part of the Leinster side that secured a PRO14 and Investec Champions Cup double in 2018 before moving to Munster. During his time in Limerick, he helped the province claim the United Rugby Championship title in 2023.

The 30-year-old has spent the past two seasons with Union Bordeaux Bègles, where he played a role in the French side's back-to-back Investec Champions Cup triumphs.

Leinster head coach Leo Cullen welcomed Carbery's return to the province.

“We are delighted to welcome Joey back to Leinster Rugby.

“Joey and his family have been huge contributors to the Province over many years and it certainly feels like a homecoming for Joey. He has gained plenty of valuable experience over the last number of years and we are all keen to learn from each other over the coming months as we look to compete in a new season.”

Carbery said he is looking forward to returning to his former club.

“I am delighted to be returning home to Leinster. I am thrilled to be joining in with Leo and the lads, there are some familiar faces and loads of new ones to get to know.

“I am working hard now to get myself fit and ready and contribute to the team as soon as possible.”
