Danny Care set to break Harlequins appearance record today

Danny Care is set to become the all-time appearance holder for Harlequins, in today’s match against Gloucester Rugby. The scrum half is set to make his 352nd cap when he runs out at Kingsholm, and overtake Mike Brown with whom he currently shares the Quins’ record.

The 36-year-old arrived at the Twickenham Stoop from Leeds in 2006, and has been an integral part of their three latest pieces of silverware. Care was a key figure in the Quins side who won the 2011 European Challenge Cup, and Harlequins’ first Premiership title in 2012.

Care then led from the front as Quins executed their incredible comeback in the 2020/21 Gallagher Premiership Final, where they fought back against Exeter Chiefs for a breath-taking 40-38 win. Care has also achieved 87 caps for England, in a decorated playing career.

Harlequins Head Coach Tabai Matson is delighted for ‘DC’, and proud of his milestone achievement.

Of course, a special mention has to go to Danny Care this week. DC is one of the all-time great Harlequins and it’s a huge achievement for him to break the appearance record for the Club.” Matson said to Harlequins’ club website.

“For me longevity is the true test of the greatest. Many amazing players come and go but the greats leave a stamp on multiple generations at a club and Danny has clearly done that!

“It’s a testament to his professionalism in how he prepares and recovers each week that he has remained at the highest level of the game for such a long time. This is a special moment for him, his family and our Club and I hope he enjoys every moment.”
