Gabriel Oghre (Bristol Bears) and Jamie Blamire (Leicester Tigers) have been called up to the England squad ahead of the final match of their summer tour. The two hookers join the team in Washington D.C. as replacements following recent changes to Steve Borthwick’s squad.
Theo Dan (Saracens) has been ruled out after suffering a knee injury during England’s victory over Argentina on Saturday. In addition, Jamie George (Saracens) has been called up to The British & Irish Lions to replace injured Lions hooker and fellow England teammate Luke Cowan-Dickie. The Sale man was stretchered off in the Lions win over the Australia-New Zealand combined XV in Adelaide.
With these changes, Oghre and Blamire will have the chance to make their mark as England prepare for their final test match of the summer. The squad will face the USA Eagles on Saturday, 19 July, in Washington D.C. Head coach Steve Borthwick will be looking to assess depth in the two jersey, with both new arrivals eager to seize the opportunity.
As the tour comes to a close, England aim to finish on a high while continuing to build toward future international fixtures, as the Autumn Nations Series comes in over the horizon.
