Rampant Scotland tore into England at a raucous Murrayfield, delivering a brutal response to their Six Nations setback against Italy with a bonus-point dismantling of their oldest rivals in the Calcutta Cup.

Inspired by the mercurial brilliance of Finn Russell, the hosts were ruthless, inventive and utterly relentless. Every time England thought they had a foothold, Scotland ripped it away.
For England, it was a chastening afternoon. For fans, it was open season.
Within minutes of the final whistle, social media had turned into a courtroom – and three senior England stars were firmly in the dock.
Arundell blasted for ‘brain fart’
The first flashpoint came courtesy of Henry Arundell, whose costly error handed Scotland momentum at the worst possible time.
One furious supporter summed up the mood:
“That was as bad as I can remember, if it could go wrong today, it did. From Arundell’s brain fart, to Gengey’s fumbling for their 3rd try to every stupid knock on & needless penalty!”
It was the kind of split-second lapse that proves fatal in a Calcutta Cup arm-wrestle – and Scotland didn’t need a second invitation.
Genge under fire again
Loosehead Ellis Genge also found himself squarely in the firing line after a handling error that paved the way for Scotland’s third try.
The Bristol enforcer, so often England’s emotional barometer, endured a nightmare spell – and fans didn’t hold back.
“Idk what anybody sees in Ellis Genge, cause he's awful imo. Costs us game in and game out.”
Harsh? Perhaps. But in the heat of defeat, nuance rarely survives.
Ford decision slammed as ‘moronic’
Most of the vitriol, however, was directed at fly-half George Ford.
With England chasing territory and pressure building, Ford’s attempted drop-goal went horribly wrong – the rebound sparking a Scottish counter that ended beneath the posts.
Seven points. Just like that.
Fans were incredulous:
“George Ford thought he was main character and tried to manufacture a moment. Moronic decision. At best he would’ve relieved the pressure they’d put Scotland under. At worst, he’s handed Scotland 7 points on a platter. Bozo ball.”
Another added:
“Ford hates contact. As an international 10 it is a requirement.”
And there was more:
“Townsend has George Ford’s number – get to him, hit him and he’ll just kick endlessly.”
“Once you have George Ford back at first choice you were f***ed. Too small, too slow, one paced and never been the best in the country.”
It was a brutal pile-on for a player who has so often steadied England’s ship over the past 12 months.
Not everyone was willing to join the mob, though.

- Rugby Pass: “Like every outside England back, Dingwall was totally neutered by a rampant Scottish defence.”
- Planet Rugby: "So often seen as the key link player in this attack, but struggled to really shine with his side’s attack stifled. "
England’s midfield looked alarmingly porous, and Dingwall struggled badly against elite opposition. Defensive frailties and a lack of cutting edge in attack left England blunt in the 13 channel.

Henry Arundell – Indiscipline Proves Costly

- Rugby Pass: Yellow carded for not releasing after scrambling to prevent a try, with England conceding 14 points while he was off. Scored, but his second yellow – and red – for taking Kyle Steyn out in the air was hugely costly.

- Express: “Hat-trick hero last week, brainless red card villain this week.”
- RUCK: Two yellow cards in the opening 40 minutes is simply unacceptable at this level.
From hero to villain in seven days. Arundell’s finishing instinct remains sharp, but his discipline handed momentum – and ultimately the match – to Scotland.

The scrum held up reasonably well, but Test rugby is unforgiving. One handling error deep in his own 22 proved catastrophic.
