England star Ben Earl has ruled out a potential switch from rugby union to rugby league, insisting his attention remains firmly on the 15-man game.
The Saracens back row spoke about his future ahead of England's opening Nations Championship fixture against Australia this Sunday.
Steve Borthwick's side will then host Japan and the All Blacks before the finals weekend at Allianz Stadium.
England have the opportunity to finish as the leading northern hemisphere side and secure a place in the inaugural final, having recorded two wins from three matches during their summer tour.
Earl has previously been linked with a move to Super League, with Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves reportedly among the clubs interested in his services.
CityAM first reported the potential interest in May, with a possible approach after the 2027 Rugby World Cup suggested.
However, speaking to The Telegraph, Earl played down the speculation and explained that although rugby league has always been a passion, a switch was never a realistic prospect.
“That ship has sailed for me. I’m on the wrong side of 25, but it’s still a passion and I love watching it.
“There was a crossroads [years ago] where I wasn’t being picked for England and I felt that I was getting cold feet a bit and wanted to try something else. Thankfully, I didn’t go down that route."
Despite being a back row, Earl has also spent time at centre and is widely regarded as one of England's most athletic and dynamic players.
His powerful carrying ability and impressive skillset would make him a natural fit for rugby league, but the 28-year-old admitted he is happy to have remained in union.
"There was a moment when I would have been very interested in giving it a go, but I stuck with what I loved and I’m pleased I did. There’s nothing I would change about my career; I’ve loved every minute of it.
“No one spoke to me about it and I have no idea where those rumours came from. My focus is fully on rugby union... and golf.”
