Ellis Genge has been dropped to the England bench for Sunday's clash with Australia, just as damaging allegations emerge about a reported confrontation with Steve Borthwick.
The Bristol Bears prop has been replaced by Fin Baxter for England's opening autumn Nations Championship fixture at Allianz Stadium.
His omission comes after The Times published a major investigation into growing unrest within the England camp.
The report claims several players lost faith in Borthwick during the summer, with tensions allegedly reaching boiling point ahead of July's victory over Argentina.

Ellis Genge involved in reported confrontation

According to The Times, Genge confronted Borthwick on the training ground during England's summer campaign.
The report claims the vice-captain had become increasingly frustrated with the head coach's approach.
It also alleges that players wanted a crisis meeting with Borthwick and RFU chief executive Bill Sweeney before their final summer Test against Argentina.
There is no confirmed link between the alleged confrontation and Genge's selection on the bench against Australia.
Baxter's inclusion also marks his return from a lengthy injury absence, having undergone two operations on a foot problem.

Steve Borthwick faces player revolt claims

The allegations go beyond Genge.
The Times reports that several members of the England set-up have raised concerns about Borthwick's man-management and the pressure placed on players.
The investigation also claims:
  • Jamie George: The former captain reportedly considered international retirement following the handling of his removal from the captaincy.
  • Ellis Genge: The loosehead prop allegedly confronted Borthwick during summer training.
  • Joe Lewis: The former England analyst reportedly became unhappy with Borthwick's response to a family tragedy before leaving his role.
  • Coaching departures: Two members of the backroom team reportedly left without having new jobs lined up.
  • Player concerns: Some players allegedly felt unable to speak openly during the RFU's review.
The claims follow England's disappointing Six Nations campaign, which saw them lose four of their five matches.
Despite those results, the RFU backed Borthwick to continue through to the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

England make four changes for Australia

Borthwick has made four changes to the starting XV that defeated Argentina 31-24 in July.
Baxter replaces Genge at loosehead prop, while Maro Itoje and Ben Curry return to the pack.
George Furbank also returns at full-back following a lengthy spell disrupted by injuries and appendicitis.
Genge will instead provide cover from the replacements bench.
England face Australia on Sunday as they look to make a winning start to their autumn campaign.
