A former England international was seen in tears during Fiji's national anthem ahead of his debut for the country of his birth.
Nathan Hughes was named at number eight for Fiji's Nations Championship clash against France in Lyon, marking his first appearance for the Pacific Islanders after switching from England.
The 35-year-old was among several Fiji players visibly emotional during the national anthem, Meda Dau Doka, but Hughes' reaction was particularly poignant given his journey to representing his birth nation.
Hughes earned 22 caps for England between 2016 and 2019 under Eddie Jones, having made his international debut against South Africa in November 2016.
The former Wasps forward later represented Bristol Bears and Bath before continuing his career overseas.
Born in Lautoka, Fiji, Hughes qualifies to represent the Pacific Islanders under World Rugby's eligibility regulations, which allow players to switch nations after a three-year stand-down period, subject to birthright requirements and approval.
His international return comes under new Fiji head coach Jake White, who has selected the experienced forward for his second match in charge.
Fiji face France before travelling to Dublin to take on Ireland on 14 November, followed by Italy the following weekend.
Three other England players changing international allegiance

- 🇮🇪 Kieran Brookes (Ireland XV): The 36-year-old prop won 16 England caps and featured at the 2015 Rugby World Cup. He has been selected for Ireland XV against Fiji A on 20 November.
- 🇮🇪 Dan Kelly (Ireland XV): The Munster centre won his only England cap against Canada in 2021. He has also been selected for the Fiji A fixture and could push for a place in Ireland's senior squad.
