English clubs join Toulon in the race to sign Malakai Fekitoa

Malakai Fekitoa is yet to extend his contract with the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) and the Highlanders and with his current deal set to expire at the end of 2017.

Toulon boss Mourad Boudjellal  is “relatively optimistic on this issue” of bringing the powerful New Zealander to the Top 14 after offering him a bumper two-year deal worth around £800,000.

According to France-based journalist Gavin Mortimer, the three-time European champions may not have it all their own way, however, as he reports that interest in the 23-capped All Black is also building in the English Premiership.

Neil Fissler also reported in his column for The Rugby Paper that Leicester Tigers remain interested in Fekitoa as well as his All Black teammate Damian McKenzie.
