Will Joseph sent Steve Borthwick another timely reminder of his quality with a stunning individual try for Gloucester against Exeter Chiefs.
The 24-year-old, younger brother of former England and British & Irish Lions centre Jonathan Joseph, produced one of the moments of the opening PREM weekend at Sandy Park.
Joseph was one of the brighter performers for the Cherry and Whites, as reflected in our Exeter Chiefs vs Gloucester player ratings.
Joseph leaves Feyi-Waboso behind
Joseph picked up the ball with space in front of him and immediately went after the Exeter defence.
Then came the step.
The Gloucester speedster left England winger Immanuel Feyi-Waboso behind before racing clear to finish a brilliant individual try.
It didn't take long for the clip to start doing the rounds on social media.
RugbyInsideLine summed it up: “Ugh Will Joseph that step is dirty!”
One supporter went a step further and called for Joseph to be brought back into the England squad.
Joseph has certainly started the season well. He was also among the scorers when Gloucester hammered Sale Sharks in the PREM Rugby Cup.
England recall?
Joseph already has one England cap, having made his Test debut against Australia in Brisbane in 2022.
He was later named in Steve Borthwick's wider England training squad ahead of the 2023 Rugby World Cup, but missed out on the final 33.
The Gloucester back is naturally an outside centre, although his ability to play on the wing gives Borthwick another option.
His older brother Jonathan won 54 England caps and was selected for the British & Irish Lions tour of New Zealand in 2017.
Will has taken a different route, but at 24 there is still plenty of time to add to that solitary England appearance.
Performances like this won't do his chances any harm.
