Henry Pollock lands multi-year contract that boosts his pay by 4x

Northampton Saints sensation Henry Pollock signed a new deal last year after a breakout campaign that launched the 20-year-old onto everyone’s radar.

The dynamic back-rower – widely hailed as “one of the rising stars of English rugby,” – has lit up both the domestic and international scenes. His rapid rise has already earned him a spot in the British & Irish Lions training squad and a November outing with England A.

Pollock’s CV is stacked for someone his age: U20 World Championship and Six Nations titles, plus a senior Six Nations debut against Wales earlier this year, followed by four explosive appearances from the bench this Autumn.

Saints boss Phil Dowson is in no doubt about the youngster’s potential.

“There’s no doubt that he’s one of the best young prospects in the league,” said Dowson. “But Henry has really shown us that he’s committed to hard work and to self-improvement, so we’re excited to see how far he can go.”

A homegrown talent, Pollock rose through the Saints system from U13s and made his senior bow at just 17 in the Premiership Rugby Cup. This campaign he’s chalked up nine appearances, including a try-scoring European debut against Castres.

For Pollock, continuing his journey at Franklin’s Gardens was an easy decision.

“I’m very grateful to be able to sign on again here at my boyhood club, I’m loving how things are going at the minute,” he said.

The new deal marks a major milestone. His salary is understood to have jumped from around £20,000 on an academy contract to over £100,000 a year. With his stock rising for both club and country, further negotiations could come sooner rather than later.

On top of that, he’s now been awarded a central contract, boosting his total earnings to around £250,000 per year before sponsorships are even factored in.

Not bad business for a 20-year-old tearing up the Prem.
