The terbulent injury saga looks set to continue for Ireland ahead of the 2026 Six Nations, as Leinster prop Jack Boyle is set for a ‘procedure’ for his Achilles tendon injury. The front rower suffered the injury this past weekend whilst on Leinster duty, as the Dubliners secured a 34-23 win over Connacht.

This is quite the tough break for the 23-year-old, who was carted off the Dexcom Stadium pitch in Leinster’s inter-provincial victory in round 10 of the United Rugby Championship. Boyle looked set for an Ireland debut in the upcoming 2026 Guinness Men’s Six Nations, after being named in the wider training squad on Wednesday last week.
Uncapped Connacht prop Billy Bohan has replaced Boyle for the Ireland camp, in the latest chapter of the front-row injury saga. Boyle was propelled up the loose-head ranks, following the additional injuries to his Leinster teammates Andrew Porter and Paddy McCarthy, however, the latest statement from the Dublin club confirmed that Boyle is set for a stint on the sidelines.
Whilst the extent of Boyle’s time out on the injury ward is as yet unconfirmed by Leinster, it is looking increasingly unlikely that the prop will feature for Ireland over the coming months.
Speaking at the 2026 Six Nations media launch event in Edinburgh, Andy Farrell said; “Gutted for him. Because he was disappointed not to get a game in the Autumn, and he took it in the right way. He went back to his province in Leinster, played the house down, and really showed great character.
“So he’d have been hoping for this type of chance, obviously, with the injuries there to ‘Ports’ [Porter] as well as Paddy [McCarthy], he’d have been hoping for this chance. So it’s devastating for him and for us, because we would love to have seen him take his chance.”
Focusing in on Andrew Porter, and Farrell gave Ireland fans a slight glimmer of hope that the resident first choice prop could be set for a return from injury at some stage throughout the Six Nations. “All being well, he could come back into it towards the the latter stages. But when that is, I don’t know, because it’s a process that he needs to go through.”
When asked if Porter could be fit for a decisive fifth round clash against Scotland at the Aviva Stadium, Farrell said; “Possibly, but let’s see how the other guys [props] are going as well in the meantime, that’ll be pretty important for us.”
