Brian O'Driscoll leaves Bundee Aki out as he picks Ireland XV to face Argentina

Ireland Rugby News
Bundee Aki
Ireland legend Brian O'Driscoll has left Bundee Aki out of his predicted starting XV for Friday night's Nations Championship clash with Argentina.
The former Ireland captain has backed Stuart McCloskey and Robbie Henshaw to start in midfield, with Aki among several big names missing out.
O'Driscoll, who revealed his selection on TNT Sports, has also overlooked Mack Hansen and James Ryan.
There is a surprise at number eight, where Connacht's Sean Jansen has been tipped to make his first international start.
Ireland host Argentina at the Aviva Stadium on Friday, November 6, with kick-off at 8.10pm.

Bundee Aki left out

Perhaps the biggest talking point is O'Driscoll's decision to leave Aki out of his starting midfield.
The experienced centre has been one of Ireland's most important players under Andy Farrell, but faces plenty of competition for his place.
With Garry Ringrose ruled out through injury, Farrell has a decision to make over his midfield partnership.
O'Driscoll has backed McCloskey and Henshaw to start together, leaving Aki on the outside looking in.
Jamie Osborne is another option available to Farrell, who will name his side on Wednesday.

Surprise selection at number eight

O'Driscoll has also backed Sean Jansen to make his first Ireland start against Argentina.
The Connacht back-rower has won just two international caps, having made his debut during Ireland's summer tour.
However, injuries to Caelan Doris and Jack Conan have opened the door for the 27-year-old.
O'Driscoll has selected Jansen alongside Josh van der Flier and Ryan Baird in the back row.
That means Tadhg Beirne moves into the second row alongside Joe McCarthy, with James Ryan another notable omission.

Mack Hansen also misses out

There are some interesting calls in the backs, with O'Driscoll backing Sam Prendergast to start at fly-half.
The Leinster youngster has been managing a wrist injury, although Ireland remain hopeful he will be available.
He gets the nod ahead of Ciarán Frawley, with Jamison Gibson-Park selected at scrum-half.
O'Driscoll has also left out Mack Hansen, despite the winger returning to the Ireland squad following a lengthy injury absence.
Instead, Tommy O'Brien and Robert Baloucoune are selected on the wings, with Hugo Keenan at full-back.
Interestingly, RUCK's own predicted Ireland XV backs Frawley to start at fly-half and Hansen to return on the wing.
