Scotland’s Hollie Davidson found herself at the centre of controversy after sending off Fiji scrum-half Simione Kuruvoli during the Nations Championship clash with England in Liverpool.
The incident came just before half-time with Fiji trailing 35-3.

England appeared to have scored another try, but play was brought back after the TMO spotted foul play by Kuruvoli away from the ball. Following a review, Davidson ruled out the try, awarded England a penalty and produced a straight red card for the Fiji No.9.
The decision sparked immediate debate on social media, although the majority of fans believed Davidson had made the correct call.
One supporter posted: “Why is this being so overcomplicated? It’s a clear red card, unbelievably stupid thing to do.”
Another wrote: “That is absolutely a red card.”
A third added: “A ‘permanent’ red card, I haven’t seen one of them in ages!”
The decision was also praised by French supporters, with one fan writing: “Hollie Davidson shows the rugby world that direct red cards still exist.”
Not everyone agreed, however. One Fiji supporter simply reacted with: “Hollie Davidson 🤦.”
Kuruvoli’s dismissal means Fiji will finish the match with 14 players under World Rugby’s 20-minute red card trial, while the scrum-half is also likely to face further disciplinary scrutiny after the match.
