Under the guidance of Steve Borthwick, England’s team rejuvenated their campaign with an unexpected triumph over the reigning champions on the hallowed grounds of Twickenham.

In a riveting Six Nations clash at Twickenham, Marcus Smith’s decisive drop-goal clinched a remarkable victory for England, shattering Ireland’s aspirations for back-to-back Grand Slam triumphs.

“Ahead of this game I wrote that to have any chance against Ireland, England simply had to play with a breakneck speed that would catch their opposition off guard,” he wrote in his Daily Mail column.

“I honestly believe that Borthwick’s players had read my pre-match column because they were so quickly out of the blocks.

“England’s first quarter showed they are improving. It was much better than we’ve seen in this Six Nations so far. England played well. I did wonder in the first 40 minutes if they had real belief they could win the game. But as the match progressed, that belief grew.”

Marler reacted on X by calling Sir Clive a dinosaur.

“We never spoke” – Joe Marler’s rugby sh**list includes former England teammate

England prop Joe Marler is never afraid of sharing an opinion or two – especially when it’s about someone he doesn’t particularly like.

#1. Sir Clive Woodward

Woodward tore apart Eddie Jones’ side during a webinar, slamming Marler and fellow prop Dan Cole for their behaviour in a press conference prior to the loss against South Africa back in November. This wasn’t the first time the 2003 World Cup-winning coach called out the prop.

After reading an article on the Rugby Pass website highlighting Woodward’s comments, he tweeted him directly, saying: “Change the record Sir Clive – you should be grateful you can ‘milk the cow’ for another 3 years.”
