Major League Rugby enters new era as CEO steps down - big changes ahead for USA Rugby

Benson, who has been central to MLR’s development since its launch and formally became CEO in early 2023, leaves behind a significant legacy. His tenure included the creation of the groundbreaking Anthem Rugby Carolina joint venture with MLR, World Rugby and USA Rugby, as well as major strides in media growth through The Rugby Network and expanded partnerships with ESPN. He will remain involved as a senior advisor during the transition.

In his place, the MLR Board has opted for a bold dual-presidency model, appointing Alex Magleby and Graeme Bradbury as Co-Presidents—each with a clear, split mandate designed to sharpen both long-term vision and week-to-week execution.

Magleby, co-founder and long-time New England Free Jacks CEO, will lead strategy and communications, driving the league’s brand, media profile and growth ahead of the 2031 and 2033 Rugby World Cups. Bradbury, currently COO and a highly experienced rugby operator, will head up operations and competition, ensuring a consistent, high-quality product on the field.

With North American rugby moving toward its most significant decade ever, MLR believes this “head-up, head-down” structure positions the league for sustainable expansion and stronger competitive standards in the seasons ahead.
