Racing 92 and ex-Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips joins Sale Sharks

  • The 33-year-old is Wales’ most-capped number nine with 94 Test caps
  • Phillips joined Racing in 2013 following spells with Bayonne, Ospreys, Cardiff Blues and Scarlets.
Sale Sharks have announced the signing of former Wales international scrum-half Mike Phillips from Racing 92 for next season.

Phillips will join Sale Sharks from French Top 14 Rugby club Racing 92 who are in the European Rugby Champions Cup final.

Mike started his career at Scarlets at the age of 20 and then moved to Cardiff Blues, Ospreys and Bayonne before joining Racing 92 where he has played 15 games this season.



Director of Rugby Steve Diamond said: “Mike will fit perfectly into our plans here at Sale Sharks. He is a big, powerful and very skilful player and has plenty of experience playing at the top level of the game.

Mike will be one of three ex Racing 92 players at the club next season alongside Brian Mujati and Juandre Kruger.”

Phillips has been with Racing since 2013, following spells with Bayonne, Ospreys, Cardiff Blues and Scarlets.

He is expected to feature in the Racing squad that will take on Saracens in the European Rugby Champions Cup final in Lyon on May 14.
