REPORT: Joe Launchbury set to be rescued by former club

The Rugby Paper has backed up a report from RUCK earlier this week by suggesting Joe Launchbury is set to sign for his boyhood club, Harlequins.

Wasps confirmed late last week that they are “likely” to go into administration “within days”.

The club have twice filed notice to get insolvency experts in to help with their debts, which run to tens of millions of pounds.

Wasps face becoming the second side to go into administration within weeks, following Worcester last month.

Their suspension was confirmed by the RFU’s Club Financial Viability Group.

Quins decided not to offer Launchbury a professional contract at 18, which led to the lock signing for then National League 2 South side Worthing in 2009 and getting a part time job in Sainsbury’s.

His performances at that level led to him getting a trial at Wasps where he eventually won a full-time deal. He’s since gone onto captain the black and golds while establishing himself as an England regular.

As a result of their suspension, a number of major stars could depart the club with Jack Willis linked to London Irish.
