According to Rugby Pass, the former Ireland fly-half has been at Stade Marcel-Deflandre since 2019, guiding the club to three consecutive European Cup finals. But the last two seasons have been tough.
O’Gara has been linked with the England and Australia jobs. He is also seen as the leading contender for Ireland if Andy Farrell steps down in 2027.
His talks with La Rochelle in the coming weeks will determine his next move.
RUCK sources suggest ge could also be a target for Gallagher Premiership strugglers Newcastle Red Bulls.
McFarland: the surprise contender
Former Ulster boss Dan McFarland has also emerged as a shock candidate for the Newcastle Red Bulls role.
The 53-year-old, born in Oxfordshire and a Newcastle University graduate, is currently forwards coach at Japan’s Kobelco Kobe Steelers under Dave Rennie, his former Glasgow Warriors boss.
Newcastle managing director Jonny Petrie, the 106th Scotland captain, knows McFarland well. They worked together at Ravenhill when Petrie was Ulster chief executive.
