Ugo Monye has been greeted with a hostile response from football fans after criticising Cristiano Ronaldo and his Portugal teammates.
Portugal, who lost the match 2-1 courtesy of two Edinson Cavani goals, were criticised roundly on social media for their antics.
Footballers will never change their behaviours when they can do this & forever get away with it…. it’s disgraceful #WorldCup18 pic.twitter.com/NCJY8yJ1mO

Monye received a lot of criticism in replies to his tweet, as football fans turned on rugby’s reputation for snobbery.
Would rather see a footballer shout at a ref than a rugby player eye gouge or spear tackle

Rugby used theatre props in order to con the officials! You have no moral high ground! pic.twitter.com/AE21z4vvIX

There is an awful lot of snobbery from rugby to football. The disrespect from players in football is shocking but rugby has its own issues it needs to deal with without sneering at another sport

Rugby is massively jealous of footballs success, obviously both have their issues that is just professional sport.
