2026 Women's Six Nations breaks attendance records after just three rounds

After just three rounds, the Championship has smashed previous benchmarks for attendance, viewership and digital engagement, underlining the rapid and sustained growth of the women’s game. A combination of a dedicated global calendar window, bigger venues, and rising fan interest has driven unprecedented numbers across the board.

Total attendance has hit 194,466 — already surpassing the previous full-tournament record of 188,128 set in 2024 — marking a staggering 136% increase compared to the same stage last year. Meanwhile, viewership has climbed to 9.9 million, up 11.5% year-on-year, with Round 3 alone drawing a record 3.3 million viewers.

Off the pitch, engagement is booming too. Championship social channels have generated 54 million views and 1.57 million interactions — increases of 113% and 57% respectively.

Round 1 set the tone, drawing a record 102,565 fans, with England’s clash against Ireland at Allianz Stadium pulling in 77,120 — the highest attendance in Women’s Six Nations history. Round 2 continued the trend, with record crowds in Ireland and Scotland, including 30,498 at Murrayfield — the largest ever for a standalone women’s sporting event in Scotland.

By Round 3, momentum had only grown. For the first time, two matches in a single round sold out, while stadiums operated at 94% capacity — another competition high.

Individual markets are also seeing significant gains. France recorded a 2.35 million TV audience for their clash with Ireland, while Wales drew a record 500,000 viewers on BBC Two. Ireland have also both posted their highest-ever home attendances, as 9,206 watched on at the Dexcom Stadium as the Shamrocks triumphed over the Italy in Galway.

The Azzurri have also broken a record of their own, as the 4,787 attendance for Italy vs Scotland at Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi in Parma, was the biggest attendance to date at an Italian Women’s Rugby international in Italy.
